The Hubris of Car Names

The Hubris of Car Names

The people who decide the names

Of cars and trucks must have a game

To test our knowledge and our wit

With placards to impress a bit

Some carry names of cities fair

The Tucson, Sante Fe a pair

Some others boast of their great size

Sequoia and Armada ply

Their virtues Expedition shares

As if we folks do really care

The family travels in a van

An Odyssey or Caravan

But Homer nor an Arab Sheik

Not one did drive, even a week

Nor did Nelson battles win

In fleets of SUVs with fins

My current car is called a Fit

And though I’m large in it I sit

To think of all the rides I’ve had.

Not one of them was very bad

My first car was a Comet named

The next a jewel of Opal fame

Then with a Maverick apart

I left the herd, I did my part

And later Bronco wild I rode

Until the Taurus took the road

But then I caught a Mustang breed

Enjoyed the power and the speed

What ere you drive be big or small

What ere the brand or how it’s called

Whatever your car now may be

I hope you drive it happily
