Our own state park
We are blessed to own a piece of The Great Outdoors. I like to say “we have our own State Park. If you have not been so blessed there are many beautiful State and Federal Parks to visit. I have heard ,any people from any places say they live in God’s Country.
Facebook is a good testimony to this idea. I see repeated photographs of places near where I grew up in New York State. Watkins Glen, Letchworth, and Keuka Lake to name a few. My late wife and I travels around the Four Corners of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado. Monument Valley is another frequent photo on Facebook. I’m sure you have your favorite places as well.
The point is that the great outdoors is inspirational. It inspires us to think of how great our creator God is! He makes the mighty Sequia and the tiny Huming Bird. He creates the beautiful Monarch Butterfly and Majestic Bald Eagle.
The forest
I love being in our forest and hearing the wind in the pine trees. The hawks and occasional eagle soar in circles high above in the clear blue sky. The water in our portion of a little river bubbles along with dragon flies dancing over the water.
If only for a little while we can think with the poet, “God is in His heaven and all is right with the world.” Just perhaps we can soak in the notion that we too have been wonderfully created a God who loves us. We can just be still and know that He is God. Beauty and Truth have not been completely trampled and we can be refreshed.
The City
In my lifetime I have also lived in the inner city. God’s creation can be found there as well. You might have to look a bit harder but it can be found. I was in seminary in Rochester, New York. There was a park across the street famous for it’s Lilacs. The city bordered on Lake Ontario and you can go to the beach there. In the winter, just south of the city there are tails for cross county skiing.
Tonight it is not clouding and I have hope for seeking out the constellations. Hard to do in the city with light pollution. Yet many people go camping in their RVs and can view them from there. I hope you too have the possibility from time to time.
Small Towns
We still live outside Shreveport in a small village. I wouldn’t call it the Great Outdoors. However, it has a Beaty of it’s own. There is a small lake. It’s really a very large pond. Yet it is big enough for a flock of ducks. Our neighbors on surrounding streets plant lots of flowers that make for a beautiful Spring and Summer. A variety of birds call our neighborhood home. There are Cardinals, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, Doves, and I believe a few shy bluebirds. Sunsets are often beautiful as well and on a clear night we can see the Big Dipper and the North Star from the end of the driveway. With the more than occasional rain full double rainbows are commonly seen from many places in the area. God”s beauty is not limited to the remote Great Outdoors?
