February 10 John 17:3
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
This verse is part of Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer, where He intercedes for His disciples and all believers. It reveals the essence of eternal life—not just unending existence but a personal and transformative relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
1.Eternal Life Defined
Unlike Greek or Jewish concepts of immortality, Jesus defines eternal life as knowing God intimately. It’s not just about duration but the quality of life found in communion with Him.
2.The Only True God
Jesus affirms monotheism, distinguishing the true God from false gods and idols. This echoes the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4), reinforcing the exclusivity of God’s nature.
3.Jesus Christ, the Sent One
Jesus directly links eternal life to Himself, emphasizing that salvation comes through knowing Him. His role as the “sent one” highlights His mission of revealing the Father (John 1:18) and providing the way to reconciliation.
Application:
•Christianity is not merely about rituals or doctrines but about a living relationship with God.
•Knowing God is not just intellectual but experiential, involving faith, trust, and obedience.
•Jesus is central to eternal life; knowing Him is knowing the Father (John 14:6-7).
How is your relationship with Jesus today?
