To come along beside
To recognize and not hide
The real pain that others feel
To seek as able to help heal
The pain could be a body wound
Or an illness not over soon
Perhaps emotions overcome
Or in the mind may trouble some
The reasons for these woes are plenty
Disease disaster crime or money
And though we can not all them fix
A caring presence soothes the mix
As well all know the healing balm
Of others standing by with calm
Let us take the time to care
And our own compassion share
