December 27 Matthew 5:16
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
I have spent much of my life struggling with the concept of humility. From an early age my mother would say to people, Geoffrey is very talented and creative; he just has no humility.
I found this difficult in contrast with today’s verse. I have come to believe this light has more to do with our artitudethan with our skills and talents. Our light is to be faithfulness, joy, compassion, trust, in short, the fruit of the spirit.
Very often people will approach me to compliment me on my good singing voice. Now I reply saying “Thank you, I was blessed to be born with it.”
