December 28 Philippians 2:3
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”
This verse from Philippians 2:3 captures the heart of Christian humility and selflessness. The Apostle Paul is urging believers to abandon motives driven by selfish ambition or pride, which often lead to conflict, division, and discontent. Instead, he calls for an attitude that mirrors Christ’s humility—one that values others genuinely and seeks their good above personal gain.
This teaching challenges our natural tendencies toward self-promotion and comparison. It shifts the focus from “What can I achieve?” to “How can I serve?” By valuing others above ourselves, we foster unity, compassion, and a community that reflects the love of Christ.
Practically, this humility doesn’t mean devaluing oneself or ignoring personal needs; it’s about aligning our perspective with God’s. In doing so, we recognize the worth of others as image-bearers of God and act in ways that honor that reality. Such humility glorifies God and strengthens the body of Christ.
