Don’t pray for patience

Don’t pray for patience. This is a somewhat humorous word of spiritual advice. The point is to pray for the resolution of the problem. The idea is once the problem is gone you don’t. End patience. To pray for patience might mean it will be a lesson enduring as long as the problem exists and you don’t have it!

However, there is a better reason. Patience is one of the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5: 22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

This morning I am leaning into the Spirit for patience. Our plan for the day was to travel to our 22 acre place in Arkansas. We planned to head out at 8:30. We needed to go to the post office first. My preference would have to make an earlier start for this 7 hour trip. It was realatively easy for me to over come that desire.

I took my time packing and loading the truck. As the stay is to be 7 days there was much to carry out and load into the truck. But I spent a relaxing time on the back porch with morning devotions and catching up on the news. Promptly at 8:30 we backed out of the drive. Then…..wait just a minute We were lopsided. Yes the front driver side tire was flat!

I managed not to swear and retrived my trusty Ryobi air compressor and proceeded to pump up the tire. It took about twenty minutes. My guess, I didn’t time it. Then we proceeded to the post office. I decided to try Firestone and the possible quickest fix. Had to stop half way and pump more air.

Firestone was not a good choice. They said three other customers were ahead of me and it would be an hour and a half before they could even look at it. So I called my Nissan dealer. They said bring it on we can have you out the door in an hour or less.

So here I am writing twenty minutes into our wait and they just told me the tire is fixable! Praise God!

Soon we will be on our way. Meanwhile we have been sitting in the waiting room along with our very well behaved German Shepherd.  It is a joy to share him with the other customers and employees.

My prayer for you is that you to can be an over comer when it comes to patience. Be sure to lean into the Holy Spirit.
