February 12 Hebrews 7:25
“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”
This verse highlights the eternal priesthood of Jesus Christ and the completeness of His salvation. Here are some key points:
1.“He is able to save to the uttermost”
This phrase emphasizes the total and eternal nature of Christ’s salvation. He does not merely provide temporary relief but offers complete and everlasting redemption. “To the uttermost” (Greek: panteles) can mean both completely and forever.
2.“Those who draw near to God through him”
Salvation is not automatic but requires a response. Those who seek God must do so through Jesus, the only mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5, John 14:6).
3.“Since he always lives to make intercession for them”
Unlike the Levitical priests who died and had to be replaced, Jesus lives eternally. His priesthood is ongoing, and He continuously intercedes for believers. This means He not only secured salvation through His sacrifice but actively sustains and defends those who trust in Him.
Application:
•Assurance of Salvation: Christ’s saving work is complete and eternal. If He intercedes for us, no one can condemn us (Romans 8:34).
•Encouragement to Persevere: Because Christ is always interceding, we can confidently approach God, knowing that our High Priest understands our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:14-16).
•Call to Faith: This verse underscores the necessity of coming to God through Christ alone.
I like the idea of complete salvation. It reflects Paul saying we are new creatures as apposed to renewed or reformed. It captures the feelings we have when we know we are saved. Life is completely different.
