February 22 Isaiah 52:7n

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns.

This verse is a powerful proclamation of the joy and beauty of the Gospel message. It celebrates the messenger who brings good news, particularly the news of salvation and God’s reign. The imagery of beautiful feet reflects the blessing of those who carry the message of peace and deliverance.

  1. The Messengers of Good News In its historical context, this likely refers to those who proclaimed the return of Israel from exile, announcing God’s redemption. In a broader spiritual sense, it applies to those who proclaim the Gospel, bringing the message of Christ’s victory over sin and death. Paul echoes this in Romans 10:15, applying it directly to those who preach the Gospel.

2. The Message of Peace and Salvation  The good news here is about God’s salvation and His reign. For Israel, it was the hope of deliverance from captivity. For Christians, it points to the ultimate fulfillment in Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose reign brings true salvation.

3. God’s Sovereign Reign  The climax of the verse is the declaration: Your God reigns. This is a foundational truth for believers, affirming that despite trials, God is in control, bringing justice, restoration, and peace. It is a call to trust in God’s sovereign plan and to rejoice in His redemptive work.

This verse connects with one of my favorite verses Roman’s 8:28. All things work together for good…   It’s what I turn to when difficulties arise. This also helps me over come my “default” coping mechanism – DENIAL!   It’s a better strategy.

How do you cope and what helps you to lean into Jesus?
