IPad Saga

Perhaps you have already read the IPhone Saga. This is My IPad Saga. Not quite so bad. However, convoluted enough to be interesting. Plus it followed quickly upon my IPhone adventure.

It began when my old IPad, a first generation IPad Pro, died. I wasn’t really ready to spend another$1000 plus. However, People say I keep it attached at my hip. And, yes I use my new one to write this post.

So off I went to Best Buy. This went smoothly. After checking out my options I decided to get another Pro rather than a less expensive model. I skipped getting its own phone to save a little. Although I regret losing that convenience. I also declined the extra protection warranty.

Returning home I was delighted to find the upgrade is much better than the 1st generation: Faster processor and clearer screen.

Fast forward a day! I tossed it a few feet on to the top of the dog cage and put a big crack in the screen. Oh No!

The good news is they allowed me to still purchase the warranty and still cover the cracked screen!

Thankfully they were able to turn around with another new IPad in just two days. I was thankful as we were going out of town for Christmas vacation on the very next day. It’s a pain setting up all my apps but grateful to have it replaced. Not wanting a repeat I bought a different more projective case. More expensive too.

Now fast forward a month. I was out of town over the weekend in a rental car. It was a KIA Soul. I really liked it but smaller than I’m used to. I arrived home at dark 6 pm after a 6 hour drive. Eager to get into the house and unpacked I tossed several loose items, including my IPad, into a cloth bag I had in the next seat.

After grabbing a bite to eat I settled into my recliner, picked up my IPad and plugged it in. The screen came up with a new message at the bottom: Red letters on a white background said, “FLUID DETECTED IN YOUR DEVICE”

The IPad still worked fine BUT I soon realized it would not charge! There had been a cup half full of coffee in that bag!

It was too late to contact Best Buy. My wife suggested the rice hack. So we poured some rice into a gallon ziplock bag and hoped for the best. Next day we had a business trip out of town so we left it in the bag and went on our way.

Arriving home around 3pm we found it still did not charge. I called Best Buy. If you are not familiar with Geek Squad they now require you to have an appointment. I was told there were none. Desperately I begged and she told me I could go and hope to be worked in. I did.

When I arrived there were three Geek Squad members behind the counter and no customers. So I sat down on stool and told my tail of whoa. Pedro, my tech for this event pulled out a charge cord and plugged it in. I thought this was a waste of time. He should just sign me in and arrange for an exchange.

However, Pedro, in fact had a better idea. He held down the up volume, the down volume and the power. About a minute later presto my IPad came to life. It’s called a hard reset
