January 1 Isaiah 43:18-19

January 1 Isaiah 43:18-19

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

This verse encourages us to leave behind the past and look forward with hope and trust in God’s plans for renewal and growth.

Isaiah 43:18-19 is a powerful and fitting scripture for New Year’s Day because it speaks to the themes of renewal, hope, and God’s faithfulness in making all things new. As we transition into a new year, it’s natural to reflect on the past—the victories, the challenges, the regrets—but this passage encourages us not to dwell on what has been but to anticipate the fresh work God is doing in our lives.

The imagery in this verse is especially inspiring. A “way in the wilderness” and “streams in the wasteland” symbolize God’s ability to create life and possibility in places that seem barren or hopeless. Just as He made a way for Israel through the Red Sea and sustained them in the desert, He promises to lead us through the uncertainties of life and refresh us with His provision.

For New Year’s Day, this verse serves as a reminder to:

1.Let Go of the Past: Release any burdens, failures, or disappointments, trusting that God’s mercies are new every morning.

2.Embrace the New: Look forward with faith, knowing that God is always at work, even when we can’t fully perceive it.

3.Trust in His Guidance: Whatever challenges may lie ahead, God is capable of providing direction and sustenance in unexpected ways.

As you step into this new year, Isaiah 43:18-19 is an invitation to open your heart to the possibilities of what God can and will do, even in circumstances that might feel uncertain or difficult. It’s a call to walk in hope, trusting in His transformative power and faithfulness.

Meditate on the 3 Steps above!
