Legacy

This poem is a meditation on Legacy

Do others think about these things
Is it a natural turn of age to bring
These thoughts of what we leave behind
And hope that others will have kind
And gentle thoughts of us some day
When from this plane we’ve gone away
Will anyone remember me
When current friends have ceased to be
Will rhymes like these decay and cease
When Facebook post of mine decrease
Will songs I write no more be heard
When none but me have sung the words
Am I too centered on myself
To worry ‘bout an empty shelf
Or dissertation noone reads
And wisdom gained that no one heads
Can Peace just come from being here
And sharing life for these short years
I guess perhaps my values’ more
And influence beyond the shore
Of what I share and know to be
Of friends and fans and folks like thee
Who choose to follow what I write
And gain a smile though out of sight
And so perhaps in years ahead
In precious time before I’m dead
I’ll live each day contentedly
If I can be more thankfully
Atuned with love to what is here
And worry less ‘bout then and there
