March 29 Proverbs 18:10

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

This proverb offers a vivid image of divine protection. In the ancient world, a strong tower was a place of refuge during attack—elevated, fortified, and secure. Likewise, “the name of the Lord” represents God’s character, power, and presence. To call upon His name is to rely on who He is—faithful, mighty, and merciful.

The phrase “the righteous man runs into it” implies urgency and trust. The righteous know where to turn in times of trouble—they do not walk, hesitate, or try alternatives first. They run straight to God, believing that He alone provides true safety.

This verse is both comforting and challenging. It invites us to ask: Where do we run when we’re in distress? Do we truly believe God’s name is a secure refuge, or do we lean on our own strength first?

There are moments in life when everything feels uncertain—when anxiety rises, when enemies (visible or invisible) press in, and when the foundations we thought were firm begin to tremble. In those moments, where do you run? To people? To distractions? To control? Or to the name of the Lord?

This verse reminds us that God’s name is more than a label—it is the fullness of His being. His name is Yahweh, the “I AM” who is ever-present, ever-powerful, ever-faithful. When we speak His name in prayer, when we whisper it through tears, when we cry it out in desperation, we are running into something solid. We are not clinging to an idea—we are entering a fortress. A refuge. A high, unshakable tower.

The righteous—those who walk with God—not only know about this tower, they run into it. They don’t delay. They don’t try to be brave on their own. They move quickly into the safety of His presence.

To run into the Lord’s name is to run into grace, truth, and protection. It’s to say: “I cannot handle this alone. But I know the One who can.” In a world filled with flimsy shelters and false securities, God is our unmovable defense.

Reflection:

• Where do you instinctively turn when trouble comes?

• What would it look like for you to “run” to the name of the Lord today?

• How might God be inviting you to trust Him more fully as your strong tower?

Prayer:

Lord, when the storms of life rise up around me, help me to remember that Your name is a place of refuge. Teach me to run to You—not in fear, but in faith. Be my strong tower today, and let me find peace and safety in Your presence. Amen.
