March 31 Psalm 112:7
“He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.”
Psalm 112 extols the virtues and blessings of the righteous person who fears the Lord and delights in His commandments. Verse 7 highlights the steadfastness of such an individual, emphasizing their resilience in the face of adversity.
The phrase “He is not afraid of bad news” underscores a profound trust in God’s sovereignty. The righteous person remains unshaken by unfavorable reports or challenging circumstances, reflecting a deep-seated confidence that all events are under God’s providential care. This unwavering faith alleviates fear and anxiety, allowing the individual to navigate life’s uncertainties with calm assurance.
The subsequent clause, “his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD,” further illustrates the source of this fearlessness. A “firm” heart denotes stability and resoluteness, qualities that stem from a consistent reliance on the Lord. This trust is not passive but active, involving a deliberate choice to depend on God’s wisdom, strength, and timing. Such trust fosters inner peace, enabling the righteous to remain steady amidst life’s storms.
This verse serves as a reminder that the foundation of true peace lies not in external circumstances but in a steadfast trust in God. By anchoring one’s heart in the Lord, believers can face uncertain futures and unfavorable news without succumbing to fear, embodying the tranquility that comes from unwavering faith
