March 6 Hebrews 10:22-23

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

These verses are part of a passage encouraging believers to remain steadfast in their faith, drawing upon the imagery of Old Testament priestly purification while emphasizing the new covenant in Christ.

1. “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith”

This call to approach God confidently reflects the believer’s privilege under Christ’s atoning sacrifice. Unlike the Old Testament sacrificial system, which required repeated rituals, believers now have direct access to God through faith in Jesus (Hebrews 4:16). A “true heart” implies sincerity, not mere outward religious observance.

2. “With our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water”

This alludes to the purification rituals of the Old Testament, particularly the sprinkling of blood for atonement (Exodus 24:8, Leviticus 16:14). Under the new covenant, the believer’s conscience is cleansed by Christ’s blood (Hebrews 9:14), freeing them from guilt. “Washed with pure water” may symbolize baptism, not as a mere ritual but as an outward sign of the inward cleansing and regeneration by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).

3. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering”

The confession of hope refers to faith in Christ and His promises. The encouragement to remain steadfast suggests that some were facing persecution or temptation to abandon their faith. The writer urges them not to give in to doubt but to persevere.

4. “For he who promised is faithful”

The foundation of Christian hope is not human effort but God’s faithfulness. His promises—especially the assurance of salvation and eternal life—are certain. This echoes themes throughout Scripture (Numbers 23:19, 2 Timothy 2:13), where God’s faithfulness is contrasted with human frailty.

Application:

• Faith is not just belief but trust in God’s promises—a deep, unwavering confidence in His faithfulness.

• Spiritual purification is through Christ alone—rituals do not save, but a heart transformed by grace does.

• Perseverance is essential—believers must cling to their faith even in trials, knowing that God’s promises never fail.

These verses are a powerful reminder to stand firm in faith, resting in the certainty of God’s redemptive work through Christ.

It is very important to maintain a positive attitude in the present. Yet it can also be difficult. On the other hand when we do it makes life easier. After all we know that stress can be very destructive and peace of mind brings peace to the body. How much more can we have peace and positivitywhen we have trust and faith in our Lord’s provisions?

I do prison ministry. Prison can be a very negative and stressful place. Yet on every visit I meet and share time with men of faith that enables them do do their time in peace.

Where do you see and spread the peace of Christ?
