November 13. 2 Corinthians 6: 2
For he says,
“In the time of my favor I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
A pastor friend of mine Jerry Kibarabara preached a sermon based on the following idea. God is never in a hurry but He’s always on time. Our verse today makes me think that God’s version of “on time” is an eternal “now.” It is urgent and yet not to be missed.
When we consider committing our lives to God we might ask, “Why now?” or even “Why not now? One of my favorite hymns says, “Once to every man and nation comes a moment to decide…” Some people think this is bad theology. It was omitted from an update to the Episcopal hymnal for this reason.
Yes, we might fall away from faith and come back. I did. Yet that second choice was different from the first. The falling away was more like a casting off of my childhood concepts of God. My eternal “now” decision was a response from desperation to giving a total commitment to the Lord when He spoke into my life and filled my soul with His everlasting presence.
In my youth, no one talked about having a “personal relationship” with God. In my desperation how I called out aloud, “Can’t I just be?” Then God surprised me saying “Yes, and I Am.”
Have you had your now moment of Salvation?
