November 7 Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
There was a recent Facebook post that said the question about the glass of water has missed the obvious. Here is some real outside the box thinking. Is the glass of water half empty or half full? It suggested both answers are wrong. It is neither! It is full! It has water in the bottom and air in the top! Now that reflects a real positive attitude!
When disaster or tragedy collides into our lives we need to find that positive attitude. The glass of our lives is still full. The “air” in the top is hope, patience and the power of prayer. Pollyanna was right. If we can play the glad game in all of life we make it better.
The “Joy of the Lord” is our strength and our hope. Patience in affliction is the best strategy. Prayer is our connection to the peace that passes understanding.
Our house is currently a mess. We had a leak in the guest bathroom toilet. It had gone undetected for some time. When we discovered it we had to rip up most of the tile and are still waiting for the plywood floor to dry enough to put down new tile.
Meanwhile much of the furniture is shoved into the half of the house not flooded. It is difficult to find things. It is awkward to even walk into the first room. It is inconvenient to only have one working toilet. I could go on.
There is no way to tell you we manage to keep our joy and patience all the time. However, when I pause for morning devotions and prayer I do remember! I do hope for a return to “normal.” At least in those times my patience returns.
What events in life have challenged or are presently challenging your peace?
How have you or can you have patience, hope, and maintain your prayer life?
