November 9 1John 2:2 He (Jesus) is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
When things go wrong in or around our lives we may soon think or say aloud, “Somebody has to pay for this!” In the early years of my marriage my wife Lily and I would often get into a disagreement regarding whose fault some problem was. It was not helpful. Often it was the fault of neither of us. Sometimes it was just life falling apart.
When it was somehow the negligence of one of us, blaming was also not helpful. We eventually learned forgiveness and joint problem-solving led to better outcomes.
Before Jesus came the Jews had a yearly purging of sin. The priest symbolically put the sins of the people on a goat and forced it into the wilderness as an atonement sacrifice. People often still want a scapegoat.
Christians believe Jesus died on the cross to be the atonement for all our sins. How great it is for us to have this salvation.
Are you aware of how Jesus has atoned for your sins?
How do you get beyond blaming to problem solving?
