It should come as no surprise that our personality type influences the ways we approach spirituality. To fully understand this section of my website please also read the section on personality type. I first became interested in personality type at a School of Pastoral Care in the early 1980’s it was then I first made the connection between the four functions of type (Feeling, Thinking, Sensing, and Intuition ) and the command to love God with our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
My interest lead me to participate in several workshops co concerning the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (The first and best survey for determining our placement t among the 16 types. Eventually I became qualified to administer this instrument and share the results. I used it primarily as a tool for marriage preparation.
Fast forward a decade to 1990 when I began my Doctor of Ministry studies with anew branch of Gordon-Connell Seminary. I was in the first class of 25 students in Charlotte NC were I was Rector of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. During the intervening years I found Walter Lowen’s book Dichotomies of the Mind. I became convinced that his theory made a significant advance in type theory.
However, Lowen only explained, as an example, how o e of the 16 types fit into his theory. Thus a significant part of my research and thinking was to apply the theory across all 16 Types. In the process I was able to further expand my understanding of the connection between type and the Great Commandment. You can read some of my exploration in Complete Conversion. It is available on Kindle. Here you can read about the connection of type to interest in various forms of ministry.
I identify 16 Ministry Roles, and Four Spiritual Modes. Over time I also plan to post the effect of levels of consciousness as it relates to the above. Separate from these subjects there are posts related to Spiritual Gifts, values, prayer and other topics. I hope you will also find these as helpful and interesting.
